On March 21, 2013, 11 YCIS Shanghai Gubei Campus IGCSE students displayed their solo music performances in front of a very appreciative audience. The range of music they played was both diverse and challenging, from Joplin to Bartok, Metallica to Rachmaninoff, and Beethoven to The Beatles. Each student who performed and accompanied showed their dedication to improving their music skills.
Performing in front of an audience is not easy, but the IGCSE students proved that, after many hours of practice, they are very capable of producing impressive results. Mr Paul Kemp, a music teacher at YCIS, commented, “Performing helps students understand the YCIS motto of aligning with the arts. Since students are often performing challenging solo pieces, their confidence grows, which in turn helps them to prepare for a competitive future.”
