“We believe that an engaged, supportive, alumni network is crucial to the success of the school,” commented Ms Rachel Zhao, Director of Institutional Advancement Office (China) at YCIS Shanghai. “We will continue to build a stronger alumni community by offering more benefits, forming bridges with our current students, and strengthening the ‘alumni for life’ relationship,” Ms Zhao added.

On December 4, 2020, YCYW Alumni hosted the annual Alumni Mixer event in Puxi to provide a platform for alumni to re-connect with the school, classmates, and peers. Almost 40 alumni, from as far back as the Class of 2005, attended the event. The evening included a panel discussion as well as opportunities to network with peers and the school’s leadership.

Additionally, over 250 members of our community attended YCIS Shanghai’s two ‘Parents and Alumni Connected’ Christmas events at the Kerry Hotel in Pudong and at the Renaissance Shanghai Yangtze Hotel in Puxi, to hear from our alumni about their academic journeys, and from parents about their support in the process. 

“These events help our current parents understand where our alumni are, what paths they chose, and why. They help families connect with alumni’s families and understand their journeys,” said Ms Luciene Hang Kamolrungvarakul, Admission Supervisor & Alumni Relations Officer at YCIS Shanghai. “I think events such as these are a great representation of our core values, thriving to give the best education to students academically, emotionally, as well as socially,” Ms Hang Kamolrungvarakul added.

During this challenging year, the need for and appreciation of connecting – whether online or in-person – has become central to many people’s lives. Bringing alumni together through events like this is one way the school can help strengthen bonds. It forms part of a broader approach reflected in this year’s YCIS Shanghai theme of ‘YCIS Connected,’ which also includes webinars, and other in-person events held off-campus, all focused on bringing our community together.
