Each year, the Hongqiao Campus Year 2 and 3 Spring Violin Concert is a joyous seasonal celebration of music, and it showcases the students’ progress in the school’s unique violin programme. This year, the school held separate concerts for each Year level to further highlight the students’ development in the instrument, with performance halls full to the rafters with parents, friends, and faculty. 

During the Year 2 concert, the violin assembly’s first performance piece was a crowd favourite, “Violin Song”, arranged by YCIS’s own Music Director, Mr Gary Sanderson. Each Year 2 class was also given the opportunity to perform their own song, showcasing the violin skills they had learned. Two advanced solo musicians even had the chance to demonstrate their professional-style violin skills. Toward the end of the concert, all the Year 2 students gathered on stage once again, and joined by their violin teachers, played the famous Chinese song, “Tai Yang”, as a final performance composition.  

For the Year 3 concert, the young performers played a variety of musical styles, both as a group and as individual classes. From the Allegro in Baroque style to the Minuet in the Classical genre, and from the Waltz to a modern composition, the students truly demonstrated the large range of music they had mastered throughout the course of the three-year violin programme. Similar to their younger peers, the students also played a Chinese song, “Jasmine Flower”, as the finale to their delightful concert.
