YCIS Shanghai students, families, staff, and friends all gathered together on the first weekend of February at the school’s Gubei Campus for a gigantic Chinese New Year celebration. Festivities included a variety of dynamic student performances, the opportunity to sample delicious Chinese snacks, and a wide variety of fun, traditional Chinese games held in classrooms across the campus.
Children and parents alike tried their hand at activities ranging from making Chinese rice pudding (八宝饭), creating fresh flower arrangements, to games like Rolling the Wire Hoop (滚铁环). Students received tickets for playing each game, which they were able to later redeem prizes.
The crowd was also entertained by student performances of kung fu and Chinese Traditional dance, a student fashion show featuring creative, snake-themed costumes, and K4 students, excited to be on stage and dressed in Chinese traditional costumes, performing several Chinese poems. The event was capped by a talent show showcasing several students’ unique abilities, including a Chinese rap by Year 6 student, Bobby Ming Aiyer.
The sense of community felt at this year’s event is a promising indication of another great year at YCIS, and a great Year of the Snake ahead!
