Coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network, both the Hong Kong and Shanghai alumni associations organized alumni events on 1 June in their respective locations.
The highly anticipated Hong Kong Alumni Social Mixer took place at In Depth Central, marking the first time in three years that over 30 YCIS alumni from Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing reunited in person. In Shanghai, the event at The Press restaurant near the Bund brought together nearly 40 alumni, student and teacher representatives from YCIS Shanghai Puxi, YCIS Shanghai Pudong, and YWIES Shanghai Gubei campuses.
In his opening speech, YCYW Shanghai Alumni Council Vice-Chairman Lin Liping stressed the importance of alumni connections and expressed his confidence in the future development of the Alumni Association. Keynote guest speaker, Mr. Jordi Pedro, Manager of MGM Shanghai West Bund, shared his career path driven by passion and the impact of the epidemic on the hospitality industry.
During the panel discussion, alumni guests including Daisy Ruijter (Class of 2002, YCIS Shanghai Puxi) from the field of foreign affairs, Andrew Zhang (Class of 2012, YCIS Shanghai Pudong) from the medical research and development, Peter Ji (Class of 2014) from the hospital sector, YA YI (Class of 2014, YCIS Shanghai Puxi) from the fashion design industry, and Danny Liu (YCIS Shanghai Class of 2009) from mobile game research and development, shared the development and opportunities in their respective industries in the post-epidemic era. The alumni also fondly recalled teachers and anecdotes from their times at YCYW.
"The event tonight was very well organised. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to meet the classmates and teachers again, it felt like home!" - Yuki Mao (Class of 2013, Yew Wah Shanghai Gubei)
"It was great to meet many alumni from different campuses today, I have been in Shanghai for many years and attended this event for the first time, it was full of rewards and I look forward to the Alumni Association being even more exciting in the future." – Julian Leung (Class of 2007, YCIS Hong Kong)
"This was my first offline school event in three years after the epidemic and I was very happy to catch up with old friends and see my mentors again. It was a wonderful night to meet new friends too."-Andrew Zhang, Class of 2012, YCIS Shanghai Pudong
At the Hong Kong event, laughter and nostalgia filled the air as they exchanged stories of their personal and professional journeys since their time at YCIS. The alumni's shared experiences and affection for YCYW shone through, regardless of the different paths they had taken in life.
"I am surprised how diverse our alumni community is. Really happy to meet with my friends and catch up after 3 years of COVID. Can’t wait for more events, well done!"—an alumnus joining the Hong Kong event
