The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards recognise the students who attained the highest marks in China and globally in examinations through Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), part of the world-renowned and prestigious Cambridge University in England. In Year 11, YCIS Shanghai students take IGCSE exams awarded by CAIE. This year, YCIS Shanghai repeated the success of years prior, with multiple students receiving awards for their academic prowess.
YCIS Pudong Class of 2023 student Daniel won the ‘Top in China’ award for Design and Technology, receiving an impressive score of 97%. Some of his previous design works featured in the expansive Mercedes Me Exhibition in April.
Design and Technology (DT) requires students to investigate potential users’ needs and find creative solutions in their projects. When exploring project management strategies and sustainable manufacturing, students must think outside the box. Opportunities for innovation are found everywhere around school, from art shows, DT projects, concerts, Co-Curricular Activities, and the new Student Leadership Team to the innovative Learning Community spaces on campus.
Across the river at YCIS Puxi, Joyce also received a ‘Top in China’ award—this time for English First Language. Joyce is now studying for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at the school.
Regardless of our students’ backgrounds, YCIS emphasises English and Chinese language learning to ensure a solid foundation and the ability to excel as native-level speakers in both languages. This ability is essential for empathising and interacting with people and ideas in a dynamic global society. It also allows students to access and negotiate the ever-growing body of knowledge the world has to offer. Combining these skills allows our students to become active participants and contributors to positive change.
YCIS Shanghai students have received awards from Cambridge each year for over ten years. Whether moving on to the IBDP at the school or taking their learning to new countries or back home, we are incredibly proud of our students. Daniel and Joyce's hard work will be recognised at the annual China Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony in December. We anticipate hearing of future academic accomplishments from the pair and other YCIS students.
