YCIS Shanghai’s Class of 2020 recently celebrated their graduation ceremonies at the school’s Secondary campuses, before they head off to continue their education at prestigious universities around the world.
Because of restrictions due to COVID-19, the celebrations were live-streamed to allow parents, families, and friends to share this important moment with the graduating students.
Although arrangements were different from years gone by, there were still outstanding speeches from the graduates and their teachers, and a video address from YCYW CEO & School Supervisor, Dr Betty Chan Po-king which encapsulated the joyful mood of the occasion. Students were delighted to don their traditional graduation attire, receive their diplomas on stage from the school’s Co-Principals – Mr Don Collins and Ms Linda Li at YCIS Shanghai Puxi, and Mr Damien Hehir and Ms Mary Yu at YCIS Shanghai Pudong – and share this special moment in-person with their peers and teachers.
The YCIS Shanghai Class of 2020 is going on to matriculate at leading universities worldwide, including University of Oxford; Imperial College London; University College London; University of Edinburgh; University of California, Berkeley; New York University, Shanghai and Abu Dhabi; Pratt Institute; University of Toronto; University of British Columbia; École hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL); University of Sydney; Waseda University; Yale-NUS College; University of Hong Kong; Peking University; and many more.
Also celebrating graduation were Year 6 students who will transition from Primary to Secondary in the next school year. This special occasion was marked with musical performances and awards ceremonies that highlighted the achievements of the young students and will fill them with confidence as they move up to Secondary.
Congratulations and the very best wishes to the YCIS Shanghai Class of 2020 as they embark on the next stages of their learning journeys, and we look forward to seeing the Year 6 students when they return after the summer holiday at our Secondary campuses!
