With Teacher’s Day’ as a very fitting date for the commencement of a Teaching and Learning Forum, Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai) was proud to host the Chor-Hang Educational Research Institute (CHERI) coordinated event from September 10–12.  CHERI focuses on furthering the philosophy and objectives of Yew Chung International Schools (YCIS) and our sister school network, Yew Wah International Education Schools (YWIES).

Organised by Ms Anne Dwyer, Senior CHERI Fellow, the conference brought together members of the Executive Board, Co-Principals, Senior Academic Leaders, Coordinators, Teachers, and YCIS School Business Managers for a summit on learning and sharing in the YCIS and YWIES educational space.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr Lydia Chan, Chief Operating Officer & Assistant School Supervisor. Speakers at the conference highlighted a wide variety of important topics over the three-day event, including: 

• Global Competency
• Strategies for effective learning
• Engagement and differentiation in the classroom
• Curriculum philosophy, principles and processes
• Literacy strategies
• Assessment and Reporting
• Standardised Testing
• Our vision for education, including a Learning Communities focus

During the event, Year 3 and 4 students from YCIS Puxi Primary acted as journalists, interviewing attendees about education and their dreams for the future of learning.

Ms Dwyer was thrilled with how the event went, saying “The conference was a fantastic opportunity to hear from and work with people from across the Foundation, to share experiences and expertise, and it was so evident that all schools shared a real sense of passion about the future of education in Yew Chung and Yew Wah. The next step is action – collecting feedback and making sure the outcomes truly shine in our teaching and learning practices.”

Indeed, following the in-depth discussion and collaboration of the forum, tactical implementation ideas for new learnings are being proposed and implemented across the school network. The forum affirmed once again that Yew Chung schools are taking the lead in 21st-century teaching methodology, serving as a shining example for educators worldwide through a genuinely forward-thinking approach.
