The YCIS Community plays host to a wide variety holiday celebrations, and last month our campuses in both Puxi and Pudong enjoyed a number of annual events for the Christmas Season.
At the beginning of the month, the Parent Organization of Puxi (POP) hosted their annual festive Christmas Bazaar at YCIS’s Gubei Campus, with hundreds of families coming to enjoy student Choir performances, a fantastic selection of local vendors selling arts, crafts, and delicious foods, and charity organisations and community groups, such as the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, who had their own stalls, selling various home baked confectionary delights, popcorn, and stuffed bears to raise money for their troop and for the local Shanghai charity, Heart to Heart.
The Parent Organization of Pudong (POP) also organized their annual Christmas Tree lighting event at the Century Park Campus, which featured the Regency Park Do-Rei-Mei Choir, adorned in Christmas colours and Santa hats for the performance, as well as the Century Park Sinfonia, which also performed Christmas carols, and several other holiday performances. Families enjoyed perusing the various stalls with many lovely creations for sale, including jewellery, Christmas wreaths, centrepieces, and much more. There was a range of food vendors to keep guests well fed, including a booth featuring some delicious home-made sausages!
In addition to the holiday bazaar events on both sides of the Huangpu River, students also showcased their learning throughout the month of December in a number of concerts on campus.
Families at YCIS’s Gubei Campus ushered in the holiday season with the annual Christmas Concert. The concert this year featured the Gubei Orchestra and Senior String Ensemble. Skilful vocal performances were showcased by the Chorale, Contemporary Choice, and Chamber Choir. The evening dazzled attendees who were graced with distinguished compositions by Vilvaldi, Strauss, and even a Violin Duet by Shostakovic.
Just down the road, students and faculty at our Hongqiao Campus provided families with a lovely evening by combining art with music at their end-of-year Christmas Event titled “Music and Art: Mosaic”. The Primary Orchestra, and Junior String Ensemble performed a medley of Christmas songs. Included in the musical performances were several piano solos from students in Years 3 through 5. Additionally, the focus of the event was to raise funds for local charities, and student, staff, and professional artists’ pieces of art were sold in a silent auction.
The YCIS Community is diverse, with more than 50 nationalities represented amongst our students and families, and events such as the Christmas gatherings and performances bring the entire YCIS family together.
