Students at YCIS Shanghai are given many opportunities to ”align with love and charity” throughout the school year. One of these ways includes supporting the school’s Seeds of Hope charity, which was formed by YCIS in response to the devastating earthquake in Sichuan Province in 2008.
Throughout each school year, students and their parents raise funds for the charity through many different activities and events, with the aim of establishing or refurbishing a Seeds of Hope in rural areas throughout China. Recently, 22 Year 10 students and 8 teachers from the Century Park and Regency Park campuses had the incredible experience to travel to Qufu, in Shandong Province to visit a Seeds of Hope School.
Located in a small, remote village, the YCIS students had the opportunity to interact with the children attending the school in Qufu. The experience of visiting and teaching at the Seeds of Hope school gave the YCIS students the opportunity to share knowledge they have learnt in school, and to demonstrate positive character traits cultivated by the school’s Character Education programme. Together the YCIS students and Qufu students played sports, engaged in conversational English lessons, read stories, took part in art lessons, and genuinely bonded. The YCIS students also had the opportunity to use the Chinese language skills they learn in their classes when speaking with the local Qufu students, providing a truly memorable and cultural experience for all.
