The unique YCIS model incorporates a cross-cultural foundation into all school programmes, including the school’s leadership. At each of the four campuses, two Co-Principals, one Western and one Chinese, work together to provide academic leadership throughout the school year. They jointly create and lead the distinct YCIS learning community, where multiculturalism is an important component of the school’s philosophy. YCIS Shanghai is thrilled to announce three new Co-Principals for the 2014-2015 school year:
From the East…YCIS is delighted to welcome two new Chinese Co-Principals. Ms Weiky Chang will join the Hongqiao Campus, and Ms Isabel Xu will join the Gubei Campus. Combined, Ms Chang and Ms Xu bring 31 years of education experience to the campuses in Puxi. They both have worked at YCIS for many years, and have helped grow the robust Chinese curriculum for international students. The two former Chinese Co-Principals, Ms Julie Zheng and Ms Vicki He, have been promoted to new roles within the YCIS community as Superintendents. At Hongqiao Campus, Ms Chang will partner with Co-Principal Mr Andrew Mellor, and at Gubei Campus, Ms Xu is teamed with Dr Richard Swann.
…To the WestMr Frederik Runkel has joined YCIS’s Century Park Campus as the new Western Co-Principal. From the US, Mr Runkel brings over 30 years of experience to the campus. He moved to Germany in 1989 to teach at an international school, and eventually became the Middle School Principal. In 2000, Mr Runkel became the Director of the New Franconian International School (FIS), serving there for 13 years. Mr Runkel will be working alongside Chinese Co-Principal Ms Mary Yu. YCIS is delighted to welcome Mr Runkel and his family to Shanghai!
