While some students spend their free time watching movies, YCIS Year 13 student, Tom, prefers to actually make films. Tom has been producing, filming, and editing his own films for several years, and his efforts are starting to catch some attention.
Earlier this spring, at this year's Shanghai Student Film Festival, Tom's film A Tainted Page (Ninety One) won Best Overall Film and Best IB Film. The actor in the film, Anson, a Year 13, YCIS classmate of Tom’s, won the Best Actor Award for his outstanding performance in the film, as well.
Mr Felix Sibarani, YCIS Shanghai CAS Co-ordinator, regards Tom to be “very self-motivated. I see a lot of potential with his work. I don't think I've ever met a person this young who can produce such high-quality, 'polished' work.” In addition to his time behind the camera, Tom writes plays. He is also a talented pianist and an active sportsman – a true example of the well-rounded student YCIS aims to develop.
Tom's filming and editing skills helped him produce an exceptionally strong portfolio, which led to his acceptance into the New York Film Academy. YCIS joins with the Student Film Festival in celebrating this young producer and his achievements, and wishes Tom the best of luck as he moves on to the “Big Apple” and his future success! Keep your eye on this soon-to-be YCIS Grad!
