Late night study sessions and persistence paid off for the class of 2011 when International Baccalaureate Organization released this year’s examination results earlier this month.

The achievements have been exceptional. Graduate Patricia joins the top one per cent of all IB Diploma candidates worldwide to receive 45 out of 45 for her examinations. The average 35 points for this class is also well above the world average of 29 as of May 2010, a reflection of the continued academic excellence that distinguishes YCIS Shanghai and has been reaffirmed when three accreditation agencies evaluated the school’s performance last November.

By subject, the maximum score of seven was also attained across the higher level subjects, from Physics to Visual Arts to English. Consistent with YCIS’ philosophy of educating global citizens who can converse, live, and contribute in a multicultural environment is the fact that 51 per cent of the diplomas conferred this year are bilingual.

While graduates matriculating to American universities are already preparing to move to the USA, the IB examination results are critical to graduates who have applied for British universities and received conditional offers–a standard practice in that part of the world.
