Following on the heels of YCIS Shanghai graduates’ stellar IB results, the University of Cambridge International Examinations released the IGCSE results for Year 11 students this month. Among the highlights of the 64 students from 19 nationalities and regions who took them are two students who received A* in all nine of their examinations.

53% of all YCIS Shanghai examination papers achieved grades of A*-A, and 87% achieved grades of A*-C. In Foreign Language Mandarin Chinese, all students who tested achieved either A* or A with one B, a testament specifically to YCIS’ ability to promote a truly bilingual environment for students from all over the world, and generally to YCIS’ commitment to providing a global education.

On the students’ 87% A*-C performance, the popular benchmark for academic rigour, Superintendent of YCIS in Mainland China Tom Ulmet shared two views, “On its own, the results speak volumes of our students’ motivation and our teaching staff’s dedication towards encouraging in students a curiosity about the world, a desire to achieve, and an eagerness to grow.”

He continued, “When we compare our students’ results to the worldwide average of 69% A*-C from June 2010, we see YCIS Shanghai’s long-standing commitment towards academic excellence reaffirmed. One of the top concerns of families relocating to Shanghai is the quality of education available, so having our students’ progress measured by internationally recognised benchmarks such as these examinations and our accreditations from international agencies are substantive means of showing new families the quality outcomes they can expect. Considering the diversity of our students and their varied language backgrounds, these results are outstanding.”
