Yew Chung International Schools (YCIS) is pleased to announce the launching of the Yew Chung Sichuan Earthquake Educational Development Operation (SEED). With the donation of the YCIS community in the past one year, SEED will help build a teaching block of Minzhu Primary School at Anyue County of Ziyang City in Sichuan Province. The building, with an area of 1,044 square metres, will provide a pleasant and improved learning environment for the 445 students there.
SEED is the heartening result of the rebuilding Sichuan initiatives started by the Yew Chung Sichuan Earthquake Relief Committee right after the disaster a year ago. During the past year, the YCIS community responded generously to our charity call in which a total of HK$1,261,093 has been collected as of May 2009. This May, after intensive discussions with World Vision, YCIS confirmed the details of the reconstruction project, which will be managed and monitored by World Vision. The project is to be completed in the coming eight to 12 months. All relevant funding will be monitored in accordance with World Vision China's Finance Manual.
When the school is rebuilt, the YCIS teachers and students will have the opportunities to carry out community services and cultural exchange activities in the school.
Lacking still HK$200,000 to cover the project, the continuous support of the caring community of YCIS would be greatly needed. The committee will organise more fundraising activities in order to raise enough money to finance the good cause.
