This painting revolves around a news story from around 2000, in which an organized group of religious extremists destroyed a Buddha statue in the Middle East. War and conflicts of different ideologies have left the region devastated. The contrast between the beautiful scenery on the right side of the painting and the ravaged Buddha statue with bullet holes on the left portrays the brutality of war and the longing for peace.
