Exceptional E-Learning – Tales of Success from YCIS Teachers
The extraordinary circumstances in which we currently find ourselves have created many new challenges and opportunities for staff and students from YCIS Shanghai. While located all across the globe and in many different time zones, and while quickly becoming adept at using new technologies, the need for adaptability and ingenuity has never been greater. Of course, YCIS staff and students are known to be flexible (as well as determined, innovative, resilient, and more!), and this situation has brought out the best in our school community. Here, several YCIS Shanghai teachers describe their experiences over the past few weeks as they have been creatively connecting with their students.
How the YCIS Admissions Office Can Be of Help
While our campuses are currently closed, as per government mandate, due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak across China and globally, we would like to assure you that the Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai) Admissions Team is on call, assisting prospective families in learning more about our school and the wide range of incredible educational opportunities provided at YCIS Shanghai for our students.
Safety Message for Our Community Regarding the Coronavirus
We would like to share this important safety message with you:
UK Summer Programme 2020
Yew Chung International School (Yew Chung) and our sister school have long placed strong emphasis on students’ holistic education. We not only train students in their academic skills, but also place high importance on their character development, so that they can achieve both academic and character excellence. Since 2006, an English learning and cultural centre is established in the United Kingdom for total English language immersion. The first learning centre is located in a traditional English village in Somerset – Sibley’s Barn. In order to further enrich our programme and provide more overseas learning opportunities for our students, a new campus was established in 2016, known as Knowle Hall. It is a newly redecorated Victorian-era country house, built on 15 acres of land in beautiful open parkland, situated close to our Sibley’s Barn Centre. Students engage in cultural exchange with local students through group activities and social services, and enhance their knowledge on school subjects such as Science and Mathematics, Nature and Environmental Protection, and Culture and Arts.
Honouring the Decades-Long Dedication of YCIS Staff
Just before the holiday break in December, the YCIS Shanghai School Leadership Team, faculty, and staff joined together in celebration of the festive season and the many special colleagues who comprise the YCIS Shanghai staff. A highlight of the event was marking the anniversaries of YCIS staff members who have been working at the school for extended periods. As in many years gone by, there were several anniversaries for those who have been with the school for 10 years, and even a few staff who have been with YCIS Shanghai for over two decades.
YCIS Students Receive 50+ Awards in Chinese Writing Competition
YCIS is renowned for its well-established and robust Chinese Language curriculum and its commitment to enabling students to express themselves in both English and Chinese at a native level. It is always exciting for students at the school to have the opportunity to demonstrate their high levels of linguistic abilities in both examinations and competitions.
Christmas Festivities Abound at YCIS Puxi ‘Music & Art Mosaic’
The Christmas holidays are upon us and as students, their families, and teachers prepare to travel home or on vacation to awe-inspiring locations all over the world, it is the perfect time to look back at the final community event at YCIS Shanghai in 2019. Last weekend, it was the turn of YCIS Puxi school community to ring in the festive season. Just like the celebrations at YCIS Pudong a few weeks ago, the YCIS Puxi festivities were a wonderful way for the whole school community to come together and celebrate this special time of year.
The Benefits of Messy Play
Children love to explore the world around them, and sometimes this can mean getting their hands dirty – literally. Although the cleanup could seem daunting, there are actually many positives to this kind of exploration. But how does getting dirty or messy, when playing, benefit children? YCIS Puxi Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers Ms Julie Major and Ms Catherine Ren, and YCIS Pudong Early Childhood Education Coordinators Ms Veronica Martin and Ms Michelle Wang discussed how these explorations have a beneficial impact on children’s development, as well as the differences between ‘Messy Play’ and simply creating a mess.
Exciting Early Acceptances from Top UK Universities
The final months of the year are an exciting time for many people – and particularly so for Year 13 students as they begin to receive early acceptances from universities. Typically, the earliest acceptances come from UK universities, followed by those from US institutions soon after. At YCIS Shanghai, our Year 13 cohort has already received a plethora of offers from a number of top UK universities, and across a wide spectrum of majors.
